Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
The position of Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for optimizing processes and maintaining the operational efficiency of the manufacturing floor. This position utilizes lean principles to eliminate waste, reduce costs, and improve efficiencies to ensure all material meets strict quality standards. This position has no direct reports.
Reports to Operations
Responsibilities & Duties
Evaluate existing and proposed processes, work flows, equipment, and layout to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime
Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis on production failures to mitigate repeat occurrences
Create and maintain documentation including, but not limited to, procedures, work instructions, training matrix and flow charts
In conjunction with the Engineering Department specify, install, qualify, and train on new equipment
Lead and/or support continuous improvement activities (Kaizen, 5S, OEE, MDI, TPM, etc.)
Participate in daily huddles with the operations team and be the first responder to the needs of the manufacturing group
Identify, recommend, and develop fixtures as needed
Ensure equipment maintenance schedules are being performed as required and on-time
Communicate and coordinate with the Engineering Department on drawing concerns, design intent, and work instructions
Coordinate and communicate to the quality team inspection status and quality concerns
Support the Production Manager in ensuring the manufacturing floor follows all defined procedures, work instructions, policies, and quality standards.
Follow all applicable safety requirements
Skills/Training/Qualifications Required
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
Considerable knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and methods
Ability to interpret and communicate technical information, such as drawings, manuals, and schematics
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to diagnose problems and recommend/implement solutions
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Proficient with computer aided drafting (CAD) software
Ability to work within a team environment or individually as required
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and self-motivation skills
Strong applied knowledge of lean manufacturing principles preferred
Knowledge of welding and/or machining preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
Work in cramped positions and a non-air-conditioned environment
Wear required protective clothing and equipment
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and/or standing
