Materials & Logistics Manager
Job Description
A Materials & Logistics Manager oversees all incoming and outgoing goods, managing warehouse staff, inventory accuracy, and logistics documentation (bills of lading, invoices) to ensure efficient operations. They are responsible for enforcing safety protocols, coordinating with carriers, inspecting shipments for damage, optimizing storage, and driving change through continuous improvement events.
Reports to Plant Manager / VP of Operations
Responsibilities & Duties
Operations Management: Oversee daily shipping and receiving, ensuring accurate, timely, and secure processing of products
Inventory & Documentation: Own and maintain inventory accuracy within ERP system, including cycle counts, adjustments, and discrepancy resolution
Supporting Production: Coordinate material staging and kitting to ensure production schedules are met without delays
Continuous Improvement/Lean Ownership: Lead CI initiatives to improve warehouse efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize material flow
Cross-Department Communication: Act as the primary liaison between warehouse, production, purchasing, and quality to ensure material availability and issue resolution
Team Leadership: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise warehouse personnel
Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety, security, and quality standards (e.g., 5S, OSHA, ISO)
Logistics Coordination: Arrange carrier schedules and resolve issues with shipments (damages, delays)
Skills/Training/Qualifications Required
Experience: 3-5+ years in warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain management
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or ERP software
Leadership: Strong organizational, communication, and team management skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including operating forklifts or pallet jacks if necessary
Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time, wear required protective clothing and equipment
Frequent overtime required
Ability to respond to emergency work when required
Performance Measures
Periodic internal audits indicate functions are conducted and records completed in accordance with established policies
Conforming and non-conforming material is stored in proper locations and handled in accordance with established polices
Craftsmen receive correct material in a timely manner
Government and customer material audits produce positive results
Be committed to the position and company
Be willing to work in a professional and positive manner
Support, participate, and drive the 5S initiative
